/int/ I require an explanation of a hypothetical.

So you've got Earth, right? Place something above it. It falls to Earth, right? The energy from its fall is added to that of the Earth's. Usually, this energy would be accounted for by the energy required to put it back into space.

But: Using our amazing, astonishing future technology, we convert all of Earth's mass into energy and just let it radiate out into space.
Now there is no more gravitational pull, and the something can just be lightly pushed back.
So where does the energy from the fall come from/go?

just to clear this up, you know that every thing that earths gravity pulls dosent always make a b-line to earth(depends on mass diffence ex:diffence between mass of moon and mass of a small meteor. the smallest makes its way to the greatest and picks up/gets picked up by the the outhers on its way).so anyways to answer your question if you were to revert all of earths mass back into energy(dont know what kind you ment so i will just use the good ole atomic)so after changeing all the mass(ex: all body of coherent matter) down, after saying bye to earth the energy would travel straight out, judgeing by how much each atom has in it, yup itd be alot of energy how much, who knows. If its anythign like the reast of the energy that ever existed keep goin spreading out till nouthing can be felt. if not and the energy decides to linger and not explode so much then it would most likely become solid energy, aka matter, agian.
    hope that helps some.

    So I was wondering:
If we were forced to choose a religion, which would we choose?
I asked a university professor and he said if he had to choose one he'd be stuck between catholocism and islam.
So /int/ if you had to choose one religion which one would you choose? Which do you believe is the only true religion?

Please don't talk about atheism or other views in this thread. Just religion.

Alright /int/. A few threads have sort of swerved into this topic so I guess I might as well make a designated thread.

The technological singularity; The melding of human and machine and the rise of synthetic intelligence. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it avoidable? Is it inevitable? Is it necessary?

What are the limits of life? Can synthetic intelligences be considered (or should they be considered) life? Are they a danger to humanity or simply the next evolutionary step of humanity?

I'll start off with a well known philosophical problem that carries much relevance to this topic and can easily translate into human/synthetic terms:
You have made a new boat, but over the many years of it's service you have to constantly repair it by replacing the wood and nails that make the boat what it is. Over the course of years you still have what you consider your boat, but none of the original material that you used to make the original boat are part of it any longer. Do you still have the same boat you had when you made it?

Sean, what should be done with these horrible creatures? I hate seeing them waddling around in malls, streets, etc. It is disgusting, and they clog up the healthcare system, making us pay for their problems after a lifetime of gorging on cornsyrup-infused junkfood they see on TV because they have NO FUCKING SELF CONTROL.

I really think that people over a certain weight should have fewer human rights.

For further confirmation look up "Shay" on Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Anonymous, we are a sort of superpower right? Then why are we afraid of power?

Who else here is curious of what we can do?
Could we crash the stock market?
Could we invade a small island?

Should we see what we can do?

There should be an anon concert tour. That would be a good way of getting a sense of strength. It could be sort of a semi-secret too. Like you've got total ticket sales, and then you could mark the tickets to be counted seperately (The marked tickets would be from Anon) And yeah. Thats it
