Greetings. I have a coworker who has asked me to look into her situation. It appears that her ex-husband is seriously harassing her from another state. She thinks he is tapped into her computer as he seems to be able to follow her from chat room to chat room as well as most of the contents of her system. I think he's using a rootkit or other Windows vulnerability and advised her that I can throw a new drive in there with Ubuntu which should effectively make her disappear for a while.

But I'd like to know what would be a good utility for checking the drive for this sort of thing and maybe rebound this back on him. I don't have much hacking experience, most of my knowledge is hardware-related. Malwarebytes and Spybot has come back clean (according to her, I haven't run them myself yet).

The local police and sheriff are involved and have managed to track down a spy for him. The spy was reporting every happening at her apartment to him so he could gloat about knowing things, license plates of people stopping by, where she was, that she had gained weight, etc.

Please advise.

I've used wireshark a couple times before to check it out. Was also thinking of putting a port listener on it so check for unusual traffic on something other than 80. So, /hack/. First let me say, I'm not posting this in order to learn how to be a "1337 h4x0r," I'm not posting this to ask for personal army. I'm posting because I truly want to learn something.

Perhaps this isn't the best place to ask, for all I know, and expect, I'll get one, maybe two, replies telling me to go fuck myself, or something else in the same vein.

I think it's painfully obvious what I wish to learn, yet, I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to learn how to "hack" (that is, what most of the posts I've seen on here assume hacking is ("lol hax my friend guise," etc.)).

I've taught myself the basics of C, and I'm comfortable with simple Linux use, some things that I've seen from lurking here are the definitive starting points. But I've become stuck, I do not know where, or how, I'm to advance myself. The way I see it, I've plateaued in my effort to learn on my own. I don't know where I should go from here, or if I've even started correctly at all. I'm trying to find practical ways to dive in, to learn, but without prior expereience or anyone to ask, it's a bit harder than it seems.

So, please, if you have advice, post it. If you want to sage, or tell me to fuck myself, go for it; it's an anonymous board, with just another generic question, you might as well.

I do apologize though if my post seems sort of scattered, I couldn't find a concise way to phrase my question, in a way that gets my full point across.

Hello ladies and gentleman of h4ck. I know this isn't a "help the tards" forum but Ive been having a problem trying to install a Second life viewer on my computer. Google, LindinLab site support, and all other forums have failed me thus far. so out of frustration i thought I'd consult the experts.
-Im trying to install "SLviewer2"
it loads and i get an error message that says "MEDIA_PLUGIN_WEBKIT has failed" i tried some older viewers and non LindinLabs viewers as well but since they used the same codes i either get the same error or my computer freezes completely.
-im running windows XP on a dell dimension 8200
I tried...
-updating Quicktime,Adobe flash,directX9,java.
-updating my video card driver
-turning off my firewall,spybot search and destroy,and avast antivirus
-changing my internet security preferences
adding an exception for all things secondlife in my firewall.
From the information i gathered i know its a common problem and has something to do with the way the viewer communicates with the site. Personally Ive never played the game but i'm decent with photoshop and im an insomniac so i thought id have a crack at selling cloths or something of the sort.This has been a thorn in my ass for a week now, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

WIN 95". i have windows xp home and it worked.. go figure it would be somthing that dumb and easy
